Open Storefronts continue to September 2021

The NYC mayor announced today during the press brief that Open Storefronts will continue to September 30, 2021. The program allows  retail stores to use part of the sidewalk to sell merchandise with a permit. However, illegal vendors are still a problem but the mayor didn't respond to that enforcement, if any. This includes restaurants that take out orders for now and sell pre-packaged food. The mayor quoted, “Open Storefronts has given business owners an easy way to maximize their space and keep customers safe as they shop. And by introducing restaurants into the program, we’re giving local eateries more ways than ever to keep their communities vibrant,”

The rule is the same as before when launched in October 2020. The path of sidewalk from the curb must be clear of 8 foot for walkways. The same store front businesses are only allowed to sell on the same sidewalk.
