Three busted for mail thefts in Long Island

Robbery Squad detectives report the arrests of three (3) men for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property that occurred on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 2:23 am in Upper Brookville.

According to detectives, an Old Brookville officer was on routine patrol and observed a black 2020 Chrysler make an improper right turn on Route 25A in the vicinity of Farmwoods Lane.  The officer activated his emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.  The officer observed a large amount of unopened mail in vehicle and the three occupants had no explanation of why it was in their possession.  The officer was aware of recent reports of stolen mail from residential mailboxes.

A thorough investigation was conducting with Old Brookville Police, Nassau County Police Department’s Robbery Squad, Fraud and Forgery Unit, Second Squad and US Postal Inspectors.  The following subjects were arrested:

Yeasin Arafat, 29, of Brooklyn

Rafsan Rahman, 20, of Brooklyn

Mohammed Islam, 26, of Queens

Defendant Rahman is charged with seven (7) counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and ten (10) counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information.  He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court on January 15, 2021.

Defendant Islam is charged with four (4) counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and four (4) counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information.  He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court on January 15, 2021.

Defendant Arafat is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, five (5) counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, three (3) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and five (5) counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information.  He will be arraigned on Friday, January 1, 2021 in Mineola.
